Michael Peffer is vice president, general counsel and secretary for Conduent Incorporated, effective Jan. 1, 2017.

Peffer oversees the legal affairs of Conduent, including litigation and patent acquisition. He also manages governance and regulatory compliance for the board of directors and has responsibility for corporate security, ethics program, government affairs and public policy activities on domestic and international affairs.

At Xerox, Peffer was general counsel and secretary. He was named to this position and appointed a vice president of the corporation on August 5, 2016. Prior to that, Peffer served as associate general counsel for the Xerox Services business and executive vice president and secretary of Xerox Business Services, LLC from 2010 to 2016. He was responsible for negotiating, maintaining and resolving disputes relating to the business’ portfolio of commercial and government contracts, supporting and supervising acquisitions and divestitures, overseeing corporate governance and serving as the primary legal advisor on all business operations.

Peffer joined Affiliated Computer Services, Inc., now Xerox, in 2009 as senior vice president and deputy general counsel. In that role, he led legal affairs focused on corporate governance, acquisitions and divestitures, compliance with federal securities laws and negotiating and maintaining the company’s debt and credit facilities.

Prior to that Peffer worked at Frost, Brown, Todd, LLC, a private law firm where he focused on business transactions and business law. From 1986 to 2007, he served in various roles in the law department of Ashland Inc., a global oil and chemical company. In the final years of his tenure, he served as general counsel to Valvoline Oil Company and senior group counsel of Ashland Inc.

Peffer is a graduate of the University of Kentucky and holds a bachelor of arts degree and a juris doctorate degree. He is a member of the board of visitors at the University of Kentucky College of Law and also serves as a director of the Kentucky Association of Manufacturers.
